Giving back to the community is not only an important thing to do, but also one of the most satisfying experiences I have ever been part of. In some volunteering activities I have acquired skills that serve me well to this day.

Throughout my studies and also while being a full-time employee, I have made sure to take time to volunteer with those who need. This page is not meant to brag about volunteering experiences, but to encourage others to do it as well.

Volunteering is truly rewarding.

Act of Kindness

A beautiful idea of a close friend turned into a small organisation which focuses on volunteering events in Vienna and the neighboring countries.

I had the pleasure to take part in several events which included visiting children in orphan houses in Slovakia before Christmas time and also during the summer holidays.

We spent some hours giving the kids gift bags, having a meal and playing various games. These events were beautiful and memorable experiences.

The Gruft is a place which is run by Caritas and provides hot meals to the homeless.

With a few colleagues from Raiffeisen Bank, I have spent half a day making a delicious lunch for for around 100 people.

The teamwork was amazing and the outcome was so good that people come asking for more. It was very pleasing to see people eating happily and enjoying our effort.

tedX

2014-2015

The TED platform is an incredible projects of spreading knowledge all over the world. The motto is “Ideas worth spreading”. TEDx Vienna is the local branch which runs successfully over 10 years already.

My best was a member of the core organizing team and he offered me this unique volunteering possibility.

I participated in two TEDx events in Vienna with over 1,000 participants each. As a volunteer I was part of the speaker liaison and took care of on-stage speaker preparation.

K-space is a youth organisation which was founded in São-Paolo, Brazil.  It is meant for university student and young adults.

K-space carries out many social events like parties, workshops, chill-out evenings, educational experiences and also volunteering.

I joined K-space as a volunteer when it only started in Vienna. I helped with organizing parties and running promotions on social media. After a few months I became the operations manager of the organization and later the head of it in Vienna (all volunteer word).

I carried out countless parties with more than 150 participants and built up a program of events which took place at least twice per week.

This was an incredible experience and very much fun!

2015 - 2016

It may be surprising to students in Austria, but there are some universities which do not have any legal student body to represent student interests.

This was exactly the case in Lauder Business School. Since it’s foundation in the mid 90s, there was never any active student union on campus.

On my second Bachelor year I was witnessing some wrong-doing by the administration towards some students. The frustration was accumulating and there was a need for a strong student body.

By chance I was invited to the main ÖH building in Vienna and was encouraged to form a party and run for the upcoming local union elections.

Everything happened very fast, but within a few weeks we had a group of dedicated students and the party “StudentsVoice” was founded. Eventually we won the elections and formed the first legal ÖH in Lauder business school.

My role was the head of Finance and I was working in close contact with the general ÖH for the benefit of students on Campus.

Maccabi Games

The Maccabi Games is like the Olympic games of the worldwide Jewish community. Delegations from all over the world join together to compete in sports and connect with each other. The event lasts 2 weeks.

In 2014 the games took place in Berlin, Germany. I was part of of the delegation support group. I was assigned to the Scottish and South African delegations and made sure that their stay is as simple as possible.

Maccabi games was a great experience and a brilliant networking opportunity.

2012

I always had a dream to fly to New-Zealand to enjoy the beautiful nature and lovely people. But you know, in life we have to make compromises. That’s why I ended up flying to Ireland to volunteer on organic farms across the country.

I spend 3 months working on diverse farms, some with animals and some only with green houses.

This experience has taught me a lot about nature, farming life and how great Ireland is.

Ireland was only the opening to a trip which lasted overall 6 months and ended at the corner of Victoria in Canada. (If we ever meet, ask me to tell you about my crazy story in Victoria).
